There were many people there that day,
When our Lord Jesus was nailed to the Cross –
The Son of God came to save the lost,
But just how many acknowledge that cost?
Most wagged their heads, blasphemed and went their way,
The chief priests, scribes, elders mocked and had their say;
The two thieves on His each side: one believed, and one did not –
One was saved, and one was lost!
Three hours of darkness covered the land,
“It is finished!” He said at the end;
He gave up His spirit, died for you and me,
That by His death, we can be from sin set free!
The crowd came and saw, and went away –
Was anything changed in their lives that day?
Those who followed Him stood a distance apart,
They watched and must have pondered in their heart…
if all hope was gone?
Then three days later, at the break of dawn,
There was the witness of the empty tomb!
The great message of hope that dispells all gloom –
for Christ is risen, risen indeed!
We are His witnesses through eyes of faith,
We have not seen, but yet believe;
And we proclaim this message to one and all –
That believing in Him, you might eternal life receive!
